I am now officially an Adobe Certified Expert.

November 27th, 2009

Well I finally got around to taking my Adobe ACE in Flex 3 with AIR exam today…..I know not long and I’ll have to retake it as Flash builder will be the next tool and the exam will be updated but hey…..anyway, I passed which is really nice so you’ll soon see a little ACE badge appear on this site and also it will look nice on my CV. The exam itself wasn’t too bad, there were some tricky questions in there a fair few incredibly easy ones that are so easy you think that there must be a trick there somewhere.

The whole study process wasn’t too bad I spent a month studying the live docs and the flex 3 dev guide available here, not all of the time but on and off, plus I have had a fair bit of hands on experience with flex builder and that of course always helps, but not enough for me to call my self a flex guy as my tool of choice is definitely FDT. I also used AttestPRO which cost $20 but it was really useful in helping me gauge my level of study needed as well as letting me know how the exam will be set. The questions in Attest are not used in the exam, although funnily one was very similar.

The process now seems like a long one, I have to wait about 5 weeks for my certificate and I am not able to log into the Adobe certified website until my details are updated to download my ACE web badge….and who knows how long that will take, but at least I can relax now without having to worry about studying every night now and can just concentrate on getting some proper work done…….until the Flash Builder ACE that is!

Another AIR app – LPlayer – play last.fm on your desktop!

September 15th, 2009

OK so I am on bit of a roll lately, after initially playing around with the last.fm api back in april and struggling to get my head around its quirky security and methods, I finally got some time this week to finish what I started and create an air application that links up to the users last.fm account and streams the music directly to their desktop. LPlayer enables you to search for an artist and play the radio station (similar artists) as well as being able to ban and love tracks. More functionality is planned in the future but for now I have so much more to get done.......! Anyway if you want to download the application feel free to get it here:

Please upgrade your Flash Player This is the content that would be shown if the user does not have Flash Player 9.0.115 or higher installed.

The applications does require that you have a last.fm account which you can do here. It then links up to your account to get authority to use it and then bingo - non stop tunes from any artist or similar that you can think of!!.

uBooks AIR application now on Adobe marketplace

September 11th, 2009

Well after two weeks of stringent beta testing from those who volunteered, to whom I am very grateful, and after a few tweeks and corrections, it is now time to release my first AIR application to the public. So I have recently published the application to the Adobe marketplace. The application is pretty simple as I mentioned in my previous post. I do have plans for the future to continue developing the interface and adding functions as and when I or any one else who suggests them feels that they are needed.
The application has gone through a few name changes over the last couple of weeks from airBooks before (had to change this as Adobe do not like the 'air' reference, to ultraBooks (found out it was an extension for Quickbooks) to what it is now 'uBooks'. The application has worked well for me in the past in billing and keeping track of payments and of timed projects so I can only hope that other people will find it useful also. So if you want to download it you can go straight to the Adobe AIR marketplace by clicking the image above or you can go to the download webpage I have created here. Again if anyone finds any problems or bugs please do contact me here.
